Betsy’s Six-Month Yoga Progress Report:

• Blood pressure tends to be much lower, even at doctor’s office, where it was always high
• Pulse is much slower (50s resting instead of 70s and 80s)
• Cholesterol is down 30 points; LDLs down 30 points (at 5 months of yoga; can’t attribute it to any other changes)
• Can sit on the floor quite comfortably with legs crossed “tailor fashion” (excruciating at first)
• Can sit on floor with back straighter than before without discomfort
• Can lie on the floor with legs straight quite comfortably (also excruciating at first)
• Balance is improving (could not stand on one foot more than a couple seconds)
• Making progress toward girl-style pushups; had zero strength in arms before; can pull down trunk door of Honda Pilot one-handed (could barely do with two before)
• Not embarrassed to wear sleeveless blouses; arms look more toned, less wobbly
• Have lost five pounds with out much effort; stomach looks flatter
• Never feel stiff, even first thing in the morning; getting out of bed is easy
• Getting very close to being able to do a sit-up; can’t quite yet
• Feel calmer because I remember to breathe properly when I’m under pressure
• Posture improving as awareness of engaging core muscles increases; less tired at work; practice poses when alone in elevator
• In general, many things that were an effort physically around the house & yard & marketing no longer are (bending, reaching, lifting, etc.)
• Broadened interests and attitudes thanks to teachings in class; life’s more interesting and I feel younger

Yoga is a priority for me now. I’m so aware of it during the day!
